The pictures in this two-volume, woodblock-printed picture book were drawn by Hikari Saitō (1811-1893). He was a herbalist who cultivated white-flowered plants in his garden. This was likely the inspiration for his choice of a subject for this picture book. It included seventy-eight pictures of white-flowered plants which Hikari drew in a true to life way.
